Gill tells us:
I have been a member of The Ramblers for a number of years, joining initially because I felt that as someone who was keen on exploring the footpath network throughout the UK, I should show some support to those who were working to keep paths open and maintained. It didn't occur to me to join in a Group walk until after I had moved to Meirionnydd and realised that unless my map reading skills improved significantly, I would only ever explore the 'tried and tested' routes found in local guide books. This would mean missing out on the glorious countryside throughout the whole county. For my first walk, I chose a reasonably short, low graded walk in an area that I vaguely knew. The Group were welcoming and friendly and it was clear that their collective knowledge would open up to me more remote areas that I would not have explored alone. I now go walking with the Group when I can, happy that there is no pressure to attend every walk, but always finding a friendly welcome when I am there. I took over the post of Footpath Secretary early in 2014.
